Subject:Stereo tube preamp Question
Yesterday I was talking to Steven Hayes from Speakeasy Vintage Music
about tube pre-amps for Hammond clones and SS Leslie's. Come to find
out, Speakeasy will be releasing a new two space rack mount stereo
pre-amp. There will be an 1/4" A and B input and an 1/4" A and B
output. Like the single channel foot pedal tube pre-amp, the outputs
could have the same driving level as the A0-28 pre-amp in the B3.
The controls, like its predecessor will be volume, base and treble.
Now here is the fun part, its is undecided at this point in time
where to mount the input jacks, front or rear and should the volume &
tone controls be separate for each channel or ganged together like on
a stereo with a balance pot to set each channels final level. Further
discussion led to the possibility of balanced outputs.
One thing I do know, The more bells and whistles on something the
more it will cost.
Since I don't play professionally any more I would like to know your
opinion!
So here is the Question:
Inputs on the front or back of the rack unit or both?
Separate volume controls for both A and B or a single volume control
for both sides?
If it's going to be a single volume control should there be a balance
control?
Separate base & treble controls for each A and B side or single base
& treble control for both sides?
Should there be balanced outputs along with 1/4" outputs or reserve
the balanced output as an option?
Other possible thoughts might be:
Bridging the inputs
Switch able organ guitar filters
I can see this tool working very well with hammond clones, tone
wheels, Stereo PA equipment and various straight amplifiers and
leslie's, in odd ball combinations.
