Subject:B4 and BX3

Deke,
Sorry the old lady busted your groove thang!
Remember that the VK7 sounds best through a Leslie. Yes, it will
suck if you try to use it's internal Leslie through an amp. The BX3
internal sim sucks as well. I think the B4 Leslie is the best so
far. Through a Leslie, the VK7 is as close to the real deal as a CX3
or BX3. The HS products through a Leslie are downright frightening.
I tried to use one through a Leslie and the secondary phasing was so
bad I had to play piano instead. I coulnd't stand the phase dropout.
The vibrato on the VK7 ismuch better but that's a subjective matter.

Thanks again to Deke who got my B4 up and running. I used it last
night using my BX3 as the controller.
The B4 is quite good. It's vibrato is light years ahead of any other
clone I've heard. When run through the 147 it sounds real!
Guitar Shred master and gunslinger extraordinaire, Andy Timmons
played with us last night and he's as critical as it gets from a
guitar players viewpoint. When I showed him the laptop his mouth
dropped open. My only problem with the B4 is gain. It's just a
notch short of having enough gas to really light up the Leslie. I
get distortion before I get good clear signal then it just peters
out. Also, the B4 is a tad weak in the lower to mid registers. That
cna be EQ'd though. The BX3, with the right settings, can fire up a
Leslie through the SE pedal. I need to work on getting the B4 to
scream.
I've discovered that there is always a trade off. For all of the
weight I've eliminated in buying the BX3 I have know created a wiring
monster instead. It's a nasty mess.
Midi cable to the laptop from the BX3, USB port cable. Through boxes
for the midi piano. Audio cable, IEM cable, preamp cable, Leslie
cable and on and on. The set up time is longer for the BX3/B4 rig.
I agree that NI missed the boat by not jumping in the sack with
someone who would manufacture a decent keyboard for their software.
Of course manufacturing takes big bucks and engineering software is
nothing compared to harware costs.
The B4 rules.
Maybe NI could box up a nice Hammond V/C box with their Leslie and
sell the thing. Yummy!
Chuck
