If you decide to drop through Illinois, Drop me an email....I know a couple of churches you could go to and check out their hammond. If you're pretty good, they might just hire you on the spot.

Not a crazy request at all really. If I were in your
area I'd say come on over, but I'm up in MD so it's a
bit of a drive. Don't give up though. Instead of just
asking a church to play, ask them when you can get in
touch with the organist. Unless he's a total loser, I
can't see a church Hammond player telling you to buzz
off. Ask if you can watch him practice to get some
pointers. My church would tell someone no, but that's
because it's my organ. If someone came & asked me
though, I'd have no problem letting them noodle
around. You just have to know who to ask.
