Since there has been some discussion recently  regarding  the Yamaha P200 

piano sounds  I thought that I might contribute some of my experiences of 

having used  the P150 as an organ clone for the last four years. Someone on 

the list offered their opinion that the P200 (which is quite similar to the 

earlier P150 but offers 64 rather than 32 voice polyphony) offered crappy 

organ sounds. I would tend to disagree with this... there are some 

interesting capabilities within the organ section if you edit them somewhat.  

                                                                              

     The first thing that I did to most if not all the organ presets was to 

take out all of the mids and highs. I also had to turn the percussion volumes 

to their lowest settings. After doing this the organ starts to display some 

of the characteristics of a good clone. Two of my favorite patches are 

808000000 and 880000000 with no percussion. With these settings the organ 

sounds good all the way up with no shrillness whatsoever.                     

                                                                              

                 888000000 third percussion is very convincing, but I must 

admit the highest octave sounds a little shrill and digitized. But it is 

still very useful. A lot of second percussion settings such as 808800000 

sound very good - and  are                                              not 

too shrill either.                                                            

                                                                              

                                  I also admit that I like the leslie 

simulator in this thing because it does not color the tones in the organ. I 

have heard many clones that completely alter the basic sound of the organ as 

soon as you turn on a slow rotor within the simulator .This was the thing 

that always used to drive me crazy about the Voce Micro B II  and to some 

extent the Roland VK7 I have now. On the Yamaha the  speed of the leslie is  

easily adjustable with the modulation wheel and it always sounds good to me 

if it is not set too fast. 880000000, no percussion  with the leslie set to 

about half speed is quite pleasant.                                           

                                                                              

          I think that  both the Yamaha P150 and P200 make  can  make an 

excellent lower manual in a clone setup (if you dont mind weighted keys). For 

some reason I prefer 880000000 to 808000000 as a bass sound in this (it 

sounds good in the upper registers too). There is no chorus vibrato 

capability but it does offer  excellent tremolo within its "leslie".
