Subject:V drums - or attack of the percussive clones!
There are various versions that can be gotten at a more reasonable price.
They are the best and are priced accordingly.
I don't think it's important to have the best when first starting out.
Yamaha, Roland and other manufacturers have kits that are pretty reasonable
(under $1k). But that might conflict with something else I'm hearing, having
a certain quality for your studio.
