Although the axe might be a factor, I've found that it's the operator that makes the difference. Virtuosos like Ray Charles, Billy Joel, Joey D, could make just about any piece of gear sing. It really doesn't matter, to me, if the set-up is made to look like a Steinway or Hammond B3 or not. A great artist can usually make the gear work no matter what type.
