I think the original question about the submixer was because he has TWO
keyboards.

In that case only, you MIGHT need a submixer. True, there is only one
input on each Mackie. As David mentioned, there is a THRU XLR output
on the Mackie that most people run to the main mixer. It passes the
input signal uneffected by by vol control for the Mackie, so you can turn
up your monitor when the bass and guitari guys go to 11 starting with the
second set, without changing the level sent to the main mixer.

Here's the wierd part. I've read, maybe here, that if you don't need to go to
the main mix, some people use the THRU as a 2nd INPUT (for that
second keyboard). Apparently the signal can travel in just as well as out.
In this case, you will need a cable that ends with XLR OUT (female) and
1/4 plug for your keyboard out.

But, if you want two keyboards AND go to the main mix, you need a
submixer before the Mackie.

Mackie recently told me that they haven't totally killed the idea of a tiny
mixer card that fits on the mackie itself, but they are sure taking their time
developing this!
