Subject:New Voce Key5 & Hammond XK-2 questions

Someone was kind enough to tell us about the new Voce
Key5. http://www.voceinc.com I looked at it & it
looks really cool. Has anyone actually had any
hands-on experience with one yet? I couldn't buy one
any time soon anyway (not sure I want to lug around a
double manual keyboard if I could; if I want heavy
I'll take my BC) but I like the layout & quantity of
the drawbars. I'd be interested in an informed opinion
here.
On another note, I just bought a used XK-2 to take
the place of my XM-1 (and the piece of garbge Roland I
was controlling it with)& last night was my first
chance to use it with my band at our practice. I
definately like the feel of the keyboard. Sturdy with
a good response. The sound was similar to the XM-1 but
a bit brighter I think. I ran it through my Speakeasy
preamp, so that helped a lot. Since it was only
practice (& at the bottom of a very steep flight of
stairs) I didn't bother with my Motion Sound
unfortunately. The Leslie sim is really BAD! It may be
worth going to my church (where my motion sound
usually is) before practice & at least bringing the
pro3t with me. I wish I could be happy with the sim,
but there's no way. It was much easier to set up,
eliminating some extra MIDI connections needed due to
a lack of expression control in the Roland D-10 I used
as a controller.
I have one question on the XK-2. I keep bumping the
stupid Mod wheel & it's affecting the sound on my
Ensoniq ZR-76 that's MIDI'd to it. Is there a way to
shut off the Mod wheel on the XK-2?
The band liked it, but they just like it because they
think I may use the console less often (WRONG!) & they
don't like to help move anything. Anyway, I'm pretty
happy with my decision to switch. I was going to need
a new keyboard either way, so it made more sense to go
to one unit with the organ included than to buy some
other board with a whole bunch of sounds I'll never
use anyway. I know some of you don't like the XK-2,
but it was really the only option in my price range
($1000) unless someone still wants to offer up a CX-3
for that price with a case & volume pedal. I couldn't
turn it down.
