Subject:Motif organ, revelation

Ergh... in my quest to figure out which new workstation I want/need (can
only afford one... heh, well can't even really afford one), I spent HOURS
playing with both the Fantom and Motif today at a local Guitar Center.
Still just as torn.

Expandability vs organic stock sounds. Ease vs power. Somewhat
understandable menus vs Yamaha quantum theory (I used to have an SY99).

The Motif has one hell of an organ patch on it, though... I think it's
called "Jazz split" or something to that effect. Whoa, mama... has all the
grit, spit, and shake of an early-60s McDuff sound. Nicely split with a
single-tone bassline. I wish my gigging XB2 sounded so good... sadly the
other organ patches seem flat, though they do try to emulate drawbars with
control sliders on one, allowing you to shape the sound on the fly.

Fantom's stock organs were awfully weak IMO.

Then, of course, I stroll over to the bank of new-generation clones and
watch as my jaw falls off of my face. Didn't have much time left, but
a head-to-head clone showdown is in order, and they have 'em all. I've
suddenly have become very unhappy with my XB2. :^/
