Noise?

One of the knocks on the 147 amp (used in the 145) is that it's
noisier than the 122's differential signal lines and swtching
method. While I won't dispute that, the 147 amp in my 145 is as
quiet as a mouse. Even with my ear to the horn I hear only a very
faint hiss. I use a solid state relay (Bob Schleicher) so there's no
switching noise. I have recorded several times with this Leslie
cranked up to 8 and noise has never been any problem at all. The
average guitar amp is noisier. With the clean AC power in modern
buildings (and studios), maybe the 122's differential wires are not
needed for a clean organ sound.

As for tonality, everyone has different ears, but personally I can't
tell the difference between 122 and 147 amps. Your mileage may vary,
of course, but I suggest that any difference is slight.

Unless you are having problems with noise in you 145, I suggest
leaving it alone. If you don;t have a solid state relay, consider
one. They're cheap and they're more reliable. Easy to install too.
