As far as sound goes, people believe that the 122 is a little more mellow
than a 147, the 147 has more bite. Given most of these devices are 25+ years
old, I'm not sure how much that's still true.

If I remember right, other than the speed-change circuitry (the 122 uses
electronic current sensing, the 147 uses 117v and a relay), there are one or
two components that differ between a 122 and a 147. I believe there was
discussion on Hamster about making those component changes on a 147 to keep
the 147 switching but sound more like a 122. Since I went with Motion Sound,
I didn't keep that |-:
