Subject:two mics on top...


Hi Folks,

I play a CX-3 into a Leslie 145, which is usually mic'd into the
house sound board. For convenience I have installed a desktop mic
clip in the upper rotor space, and another clip in the lower rotor
space. I use a pair of SM-57's (with windscreens) which I offer to
the house sound crew for use.

The thing is, with only one mic on the upper rotor, the tremolo
Leslie sound heard through the house system sounds too slow (wow---
wow---wow, rather than the more familiar wow-wow-wow). So I'm
thinking about using two mics on the upper rotor (as is done when
recording a Leslie). Two mics would effectively double the perceived
rotational speed of the rotor, making it sound more like what you
hear when listening to an unmic'd Leslie in a room (with wall
reflections).

When doing this, I would like to make a permenant installaion of two
mics inside the upper rotor compartment. I know that different
members of this forum have experimented with internal mics for the
PRO-3, and perhaps Leslies too. I think I'll need to use mics that
are smaller than the '57 stick mics to fit them. Dynamic mics are
best for this application (no batteries), but I'll use condensers if
I must. Sound quality is important to me. My questions:

* what brand of mics did you use and what did you think
of their tonal character?

* how did you mount them?

* how did you wire them?

I would like to wire them to two XLR jacks so that I could use just
one jack to get both mic outputs (mono) or use both jacks for
stereo. I expect I'll need to wire in a switch to do that, how would
I wire it?

Any help with this would be much appreciated!
