Re:CX3 Shrillness etc.
A big difference between the CX3 and all other clones is
"A little tweaking on the CX3 goes a long way".
The Amp/Spoeaker combo is very important for best results.
A-The range of tonal parameters is much wider than any other clone
and shrillness depends on positions of certain parameters. I suggest
finding a preset you like and tweak the parameters and see where it goes.
B-Every preset is a different Hammond/Leslie combo
C-If you want to get rid of the "Shrilness" and get a warm sound
try the following next time you try it out.
1-Horn /Rotor balance
adjust the settings toward more of a rotor balance and less horn
ie: 40/60 30/70
2-Adjust the Rotor/Distance bring closer to 99
and move the Horn/Distance closer to 0
3-Adjust the internal/external Eq
4-adjust the upper drawbar levels
5-Type II mode has more "fatness" in the last octave than TypeI
6-Add some overdrive to taste.
Warmth is good in a music store test but presence is needed to cut
through a band
live and the CX3 has it in spades.
In addition the new BX3 has some new tonal features (will be
available to CX3 owners)
Drawbar scaling Mellow/Bright
Speaker Sim: Off
I heard these features on the BX3 at the NAMM show and they make a
big difference
tonally, Sim/off increases midrange levels and and make it quite
"Fat" very Hammond like.
Mellow/Bright:seems to be differences of drawbar levels.
In conclusion the CX3 is a deep instrument and requires more than a
surface examination.
It may be less obvious up front but more rewarding long term.
My final $.02Cdn. on this topic.
