I would not look at an alternative list server for 1$/year. Not
because of the cost, but because of the inconvenience of sending it.
And you'd find it hard to get new members, because people don't pay
to check something out.

Most of them provide terrific tech support, at the rate of around $10-
15US/month. Even at $15/month, that would work out to less than a
dollar per member per year, assuming that everyone stayed here. If
half the group decided to leave, however, that would raise the price.
