Subject:Re: CX3 vs Electro personal shootout long post
Great post. I briefly owned a CX-3 (returned it) and currently own a
Nord Electro. (I previously owned a VK-7.)
First, I think both are great. But, my vote goes to the Electro.
I am ignoring the pianos in this note. Just looking at the organs.
My observations:
- Out of the box the Electro sounds better to me (i.e., more like my
B3 which I love. Late model, excellent condition) Since I am not
a "tweaker", I prefer the simplicity of the Electro.
- I think the Electro's chorus is better. While not as pronouced as
other units, it has a richness I prefer.
- I prefer the keyboard of the Electro. Better shape and triggering.
- The Electro's Leslie rolls the highs off too quickly. Without the
leslie there are more highs. Since I use a KBR-3D, this is not a
problem for me.
- The Nord's percussion sounds better to me. The bite and slope more
nearly matches my B3.
- I prefer the smaller size of the Nord.
- The Nord does not have reverb.
- The CX-3 has better controls, but I am not repeled bu
the "drawbuttons" as some people are.
- The Nord is cheaper.
All in all, very close. To me the Nord wins by a hair. To many the CX-
3 will win. Either is a great choice. Both are a bit better than the
XK-2 and VK-7.
