Maybe this is the "Japanese" way of Leslie switching. It's great, if you
assume that brake is just a convenience setting for between sets, or for
non-spinning songs. Apparently, the use of a 1-speed Leslie doesn't come
into play in that scenario.
My personal favorite approach models the 1-speed "hack" the players used to
do: By cutting the little jumper in the four pin Brake plug on top of a
122/147 amp -- careful! it has live AC on it when the Leslie is in
Chorale! -- and connecting heavy-duty on/off switch between the two pins
where the jumper was, you effectively kill the slow motors. With the
switch on, you have a regular 2-speed Leslie; with the switch off, it turns
into a 1-speed Leslie. I would prefer to use the Brake setting as a sort
of "vintage" switch to move between the two styles. That way, the speed
switch always provides Tremolo in the same manner.
