I use the Akai Riffo-matic for breaking the stuff down. You get two
different record lengths; the longer inserts more noise (There is no free
lunch). There is an EQ select to help you emphasize the keyboard line. I
always use it when practicing new material from CD. The grab feature has
been useful. It takes some different listening skills, but it is useful.
Easy to use. The slower the sample, the more noise, but you usually can get
the jist of it. Musicians Friend, probably the best $$$

Hi,
Check out an American Musical, Musicians Friend catalog or call Guitar
Center. They have something that caught my eye for some reason called the
Riffomatic or something like that. Guitarists usually use it. I think it was
under $100. It basically is a short time sampler that has a time/compression
function to slow down the melody without loosing pitch. If you have an old 4
track reel to reel you can do the same thing. Record it real time then slow
down the tape then DETUNE your keyboard to the detune of the melody. There
may be a few ways to do it with what you have lying around if its a one or
two shot deal.
