Subject:VK-7 top octave shrillness
Have any list members spent much time investigating the difference between
the "vintage" and "clean" wheel types on the VK-7 ? The manual (p46) says
that "clean" has no leakage noise, and "vintage" has much leakage noise
added, but in any case it can be added separately using the leakage setting.
To me, the "clean" type seems to be quite a bit less shrill in the top
octave, even though it is just really the noise that has been taken away,
which would explain why it is almost impossible to EQ out shrillness without
affecting other parts of the organ sound (i.e. key click lower down the
keyboard) - because the leakage sound is not dependent on the pitch of the
note (unlike on the real thing). And the chorus unpleasant swirly sound
pretty much disappears on "clean".
What do list members typically tend to use ? "clean" or "vintage" ?
Has anyone compared it with a real Hammond ? Conclusions ?
Cheers
James
