The best of both worlds is the Moogerfooger MF-1 envelope follower.
Incredible warm analog circuitry, plus extremely flexible user control.
Moogerfoogers have four CV input jacks, giving the user the envelope
follower effect plus the control of a wah pedal. Moogerfoogers are pricey,
but the best.
