Thanks for the info and references on MIDI wiring. I have made up the box,
tested it and used it. I found quickly that no keys can be on during the
switch or the V-3 unit hangs up and must be re-booted to clear the note on.

But the unit is very useful for my application. Thank you.

MIDI is current loop - MIDI data shows up when a
circuit is (typically) completed from pin 4 on an
"out" to a pin 4 on an "in" to pin 5 on that "in" and
back to pin 5 on the "out" in a certain
fashion(although it doesn't have to be this way). so
basically, if you interrupt either pin 4 or 5, you
should be good. pin 2 is ground, and should be wired
straight through the switch. so should anything else
connected in the cable.

don't know how you are at reading schematics, but
there are some useful MIDI hardware resources at
http://www.nctnico.cistron.nl/midi.htm

if nothing else, the schems will give you a MIDI
pinout. the MIDI section at
http://www.harmony-central.com is also useful for
general information.

something else to consider: if you're not using the
"morph" feature on the lower manual, and have a free
MIDI CC available, consider setting up your patches so
that the AUX DB setting is all DB off, and assign the
morph to be controlled by that CC. if it's a switch,
then it should be as quick to engage as your MIDI
cutout. the only issue would be if you turn up the
keyclick for normal use - it would still be present
when you morphed. if you use a lot of patches, it will
take time to set up, but it may be a solution.
