I think this is the same tone generator chip the PolySix used. These ICs
are long out of production but there are still stockpiles of them around,
though you may have to dig for awhile before you find one. I seem to recall
paying about US$50 maybe five or six years ago.

Can't even hold a candle to the newer stuff. I had a BX-3 (the two manual
one) for about two years, and I never really cared for the sound. I'm
pretty sure these used a top-octave division synthesis technique (like a
Vox Continental or a Farfisa) so the harmonic structure is all wrong.
Actually, now that I think about it, it sounds a lot like the Oberheim
OB-3, which I think has the same problem.

Even through a Leslie I could never get a good warm Hammond sound out of my
BX-3, so I sold it and went back to using my M-3. That was ten years ago.
If I saw one for sale today, I'd smile, but I'd walk by.
