Subject:Piano Modules: completely ON topic this time....

I agree with Ken, this discussion has been extremely helpful and
interesting to me and there is all sorts of crossover. On a similar topic,
I was chatting to Richard Bell (of Janis Joplin and Cowboy Junkies fame)
the other day after his gig. I noticed he was using a PC88 as a lower
manual for his CX-3. Through-out the gig my buddy was wondering why
Richard didn't play the organ more often and I told him (somewhat
smuggly....he being a guitarist and not "in-the-know") that he'd been
playing it for the whole night.....on the lower manual (PC88) In
fact....the only time he actually played the CX-3 was for solos and organ
stabs. When I asked Richard about it, he said it was because he
actually prefered the piano feel for most of his B3 licks. I thought
that was very interesting. I also noticed that he alternated between piano
sounds and organs sounds as well as layering them the whole night. He
had 6 volume pedals total....and two of them he used to control his piano
volume and organ volume. He used it very tastefully in songs to "pedal up"
the organ, play a riff, drop out the organ and bring in the piano to echo
the organ riff and so on. It was very cool. I was also admiring his
"Motion Sound" leslie...a very nice sounding unit!

Anybody else prefer the "piano" feel for your organ sounds?

Bruce,

I hear what you're saying about straying off-topic, but I have found this
thread most interesting, and I gig sometimes with my B3 and sometimes with
my V3/drawbars or my laptop running B4 and Voce drawbars. The one thing
that's always onstage with whatever organ I use is a piano of some sort.
I've learned a lot from this latest discussion and I think it's quite
relevant to anyone gigging with a clone or the real deal. I suspect the
buzz will naturally start to die down anyway, but it sure has been
interesting. I personally can't devote any more time to yet another list,
so moving to a piano discussion group isn't for me. If anyone wants to mail
me directly to share experiences, please do. I currently have a Roland
A90ex and an XP80 as well as the above mentioned organ stuff.

Cheers, Ken
