Subject:RE: My Clone
Hi David,
My band was telling me to "Get over it" about not being able to use NI
B4. When I can't use Native Instruments B4, I'm forced to use my sampled
organ sounds on my Korg.
The band (actually just the lead singer) tells me to "get over it" because
she doesn't notice the difference between the Samples and my NI B4. I
personally detest the organ samples on my Korg because they are just soooooo
inflexible and limited. (not to mention that there are only about 2 octaves
in the center of the keyboard that sound decent. The upper and lower
octaves grate my nerves. ESPECIALLY on recording.
My band put together a quick demo of "Knock on Wood". I was eager to try
out my B4 in the studio and when I got to the guitarist's place, I realized
I'd forgot my USB connector. So we decided to go ahead and record the
Korg Sampled Organs. I did two takes just and we both unanimously agreed
that it was crap. 2 days later I came back and laid down some tracks with
NI B4. It was SWEET. I actually had the guitarist triggering my the
"Leslie" because my joystick springs back into place and I needed both hands
for the track. My guitarist/sound engineer loves the effect of slowing and
speeding up that can be triggered quickly by flicking the "leslie"
on-and-off quickly several times.
Anyway, the sweet sound prompted us to crack out the beers and celebrate a
great session with B4.
I can't wait to get back into the studio with my PC-1600x. I've got it
all set up to control my drawbars, vibrato, leslie. AND low and high tones
on the "leslie". The effect of using both the low and high tone controls
simultaneously....is comparible to a "Wah-wah" peddle but more subtle and
adds an incredible performance effect. Having never played a real
tonewheel, I don't know if it simulates an actual effect. But quite
frankly, I don't really care. It's cool sound.
Here's to cool sound!

Thats because most of the clones sound like crap.... The kyboard player I
replaced in my present band used an old Korg sythesizer for all the Hammond
sounds and you would not believe what they sounded like.... I am embarrased
whenever I hear old live recordings of the band. It was not that he could
not afford to buy a decent clone, I just don't think he knew the difference
or did not think it was important. The band did.. when they heard my CX3
they flipped!

What? Band says:"Get over it"??
One of the things that always pissed me about bands I've been in is that
they (at least in my case) have a tendency to offer advice to the keyboard
player. No one tells a drummer which sticks to use! No one tells a
guitarist which stompbox to buy but they all seem to wanna offer advice on
which organ or what strings ..... I just nod and smile and do what I feel
like.
