I concur on the wood part. Although, for example, a Leslie 760 and a 770
SHOULD sound exactly the same -- identical speakers, amplifier, even motors
-- the tone of the wooden vents seems to be a little mellower than those
metal grilles. Then again, maybe it's all in the mind ...

Comparing the 860 to the 145, though, is a real apples-to-oranges
comparison. The only thing they share is the tweeter and horn. Otherwise,
it's tubes vs. solid-state, 12" vs. 15" woofer, Tolex and metal vs. wood,
and (I think) foam rotor vs. wooden rotor. The 860 is wonderfully small --
fits in the back seat of many small sedans -- and maybe even a little
louder, but it's not in the 122/147 family, and means small deductions here
and there for little things that might add up to disappointment in the long
run.
