As a paunchy, balding rocker from the '60s and '70s, I take great exception
to your comments! ;^)
Seriously, though, the idea of industry lurkers is a valid point. We have
had a couple in the past -- in the interest of privacy, I won't disclose
their names, or whether they are still here or not -- and once we open the
group to all clones, the chances increase. A member of the Roland keyboard
marketing group, for example, might be interested in collecting feedback
from VK-7 users anonymously, but would refrain from doing so if his/her
name was known to the group, both because it might change the nature of the
comments, and because Roland might forbid it. (Publicly joining the group
might be seen to imply that Roland was sanctioning or sponsoring the group
in some manner.)
Privacy on the list is kind of like a door on a bedroom or office: Even if
you put the door there, the resident can choose to leave it open, if so
desired. If you take the door off the hinges, however, the choice is gone
-- lack of privacy is the only choice left.
Regards,
-BW
