Subject:Re: [Voce]Leslie Simulators contd.
Hello,
I use a Hughes and Kettner Tube Rotosphere and I have found it to be
the nearest to a true Leslie (almost perfect) apart from the
simulators that use actual rotating horns although it is better than
an Elka Cabinet I once owned which did have rotors.
Not only is it realistic but also very musical with a liquid sound
and is effective on both slow and fast settings. It is a largish
sized stomp box.
IMO it can be made to sound even better with a little teaking using
an Equaliser and also it benefits from being fed into a mixer and
partially crossmixing the left-hand and right-hand channels which
enhances the throb of the rotor effect.
Drawbacks. It is tube amplified (which is good) but from time to time
the tube needs to be replaced, which is a little tricky to do.
There are three switches, bypass, brake, and slow/fast. The bypass
and slow/fast can be operated using a plug-in sustain pedal and/or
on/off
footswitch but the brake button is momentary only and has no option
for a seperate footswitch. IMO it would be better if the button were
changed for an on/off type button so that the unit could be used in
the stop postion making use of the tube circuitry without having to
keep a foot pressed down on the brake button.I understand that this
button can be changed to an on/off type by a competent engineer.
The unit does not allow for midi control.
It is an amazing effects pedal and worth every penny, and great in a
recording situation.
Cheers, Thomas.
