I recently started using the V5 and I have not been able to get the unit
to respond to expression control data via MIDI. When MIDI'd to my RD600,
the volume slider (controller #7) will properly control the volume of the
V5, but with an expression pedal sending controller #11, the Voce does
not respond as you would expect--it will be full volume with the pedal at
full throttle & when you sweep the pedal back to be softer, the V5 goes
immediately to 0 with no in between increments.
I tried it again using my XK2 as a controller and the expression pedal
has the same effect with the V5. Basically turns the volume on & off. I
then read the Voce manual and it does not claim to support expression
control data. Fellow list member Dave Osoff has also confirmed this and
states that he used a regular patch cord volume pedal since MIDI won't do
it.
It's a design drawback and I wish there was a workaround--I do believe a
company called Anatek made a "Pocket Pedal" device that would create
controller messages for dumb MIDI instruments, but I don't know that
Anatek is still alive & kicking. If I could find a MIDI solution, I
would need to weigh my options of which is simpler--another MIDI device
in the chain (with the potential of another wall wart) or just replacing
my expression pedal with a true patch cord volume pedal.
If I come across a MIDI solution, I'll share. If anyone else has come up
with a way to send expression control to the V5, let us know.

Eric
