Actually, I think the effect you describe can be found within the sim,
too. I set the "distance" setting in the simulator at 70, halfway between
my recommended "close mic'ed" (60) and "room" (80) settings. The reason
that I did so was that I use a beefed up, fairly loud Leslie on stage --
certainly louder than a typical 122/147 -- and since I tend to play smaller
venues, the Leslie sound that the audience hears is something close to a
50:50 blend of Leslie + mic'ed sound. I wanted to maintain that balance
for Leslie-less gigs, and I forgot to reset the simulator to 60 prior to
the tests. Then again, maybe it wouldn't even matter; the difference
between 60 and 70 isn't all that audible.
