Hi,
I'm sorry I will rephrase that: ......
The XM1 sounds great on a professional CD recording I have, which has
the module through playing through a Leslie. Of course the artist who
was commissioned by Hammond-Suzuki for their own demo tape could have
used just the combination of drawbars which worked reasonably well.
I have been advised by others that they like it too.
All the newer Hammonds use the same sound engine from what I
understand so if the XM1 is wrong then so are all their latest
offerings.
I have heard about the beating problem and if it is really
pronounced then it would drive me nuts as well.
There is a phasing problem on the Oberheim as I mentioned previously
which relates to the lower manual being just slightly off tune to the
upper manual which I guess if you are picky would only be overcome by
purchasing two units.
I can get round the problem by also using the E-mu.
I wasn't keen on the XM1 because it was tonally harsh and sterile
sounding and there were so many drawbar combinations which just did
not work.
The Oberheim is an absolute dream for musicality of tone to my ears
at any rate, and I love the sound.I hope it pleases still when I
connect it up to a Leslie.
I wonder in what respect it sounded awful to you?
Any combination of its drawbars sound good to me. Did you hear it
raw, or through a Leslie?
Its good to hear different points of view.
Regards, Thomas.
