No Bruce;
I didn't take your post as a flame. Your serious insight has now got me
thinking about several issues you have brought to my attention. (I think I'm
getting too sensitive in my declining years...wait a sec, I'm only thirty
seven!)
Anyway, like all new instruments...first-off-the-line units will always
exhibit a few minor problems that need some 'finessing' to optimize.
Remember the early Minimoogs, Memorymoogs, etc.? (Not sure they ever really
got the 'Memory' straightened out) but your points are well taken.
You're absolutely correct regarding the Hammonds not have the upper drawbars
"speaking" during rapid fire trills and 'supra-fast'single note
playing. Although this never really bothered me. (I had forgotten about
that!) Also, your automobile analogy is apropos. We've all had to 'get used
to' various permutations of keyboard actions over the years. My main
instrument is piano, getting used to any non-weighted action was a learning
experience all it's own.
I'm going to check the SN of the unit I played. I'm sure you're probably
correct that it's an earlier Rev. of software. Thanks for all the excellent
info. It is a testament to the outstanding and intelligent musicians in this
group that info like this can be so quickly shared. Last, which was the
XB-5?
(Oak cabinet/full pedal board model?)
Thanks again,
MP
