Subject:A related? Leslie Question

Greetings:

I hope this question is "on topic enuff" ... it deals with how my clone
interacts with my 122 Leslie.

My 122 has developed an intermittant "stalling rotors" problem, that is,
after the unit has warmed up for a spell (at least 5-10 minutes of playing),
the rotors intermittantly stop rotating. The Leslie is being run from my
XK-2 via a "122 kit". I use the XK-2's fast/slow leslie switch, which
normally works fine. When the rotors are stalled, hitting the fast
footswitch will get them moving again.

Here's the interesting wrinkle, and perhaps clue to the problem ... when I
run the Leslie from the Speakeasy preamp, the rotors never stall! So it
must have something to do with the way the rotors are powered ... which
apparently is different through the Speakeasy preamp than the by the kit.

I've been trying changing tubes to see if that makes a difference in the
Leslie's rotor performance, since apparently the tubes provide power (bias?)
to the circuits that control the Leslie's rotors. So far, no difference.
The last time I replaced the big power tubes, the problem went away for a
while.

OK, so maybe the internal workings of the Leslie are beyond this forum's
scope, but certainly the difference between the Hammond 122 kit and the
Speakeasy in controlling the rotors isn't.

Anyway, no harm in asking, I guess. I'll be swapping power tubes today to
see if anything changes. BTW, there's nothing tougher to play through than
a stalled rotor ... when the sound goes from sweet to oinky, it's tough to
keep one's concentration!

TIA,
