Pete,
I use the Yamaha FC-7 with my VK-7 and it works fine. Seems to have
a very high quality pot in it, definitely a better item than in Boss
pedals I've used before that became scratchy after a while.

The throw of the FC-7 isn't as long as on a console, and the angle is
wrong when it is flat on the floor/pedalboard. It can be adjusted,
but 30 degrees in the wrong direction!!! The former can't be fixed
but the latter can with a wedge-shaped piece of wood under the pedal.

You will need to do the (by now) well documented wire swap. On my FC-
7, the cable is a lapped screen around a red and a white wire. The
white wire was wired to the tip and the red wire was wired to the
ring of the sealed jack, with the screen connected to earth.

The VK-7 needs the red wire connected to the tip and the white wire
connected to the ring. Interestingly, this is the standard for
stereo cabling - the tip of a 3 conductor 1/4" or 3.5mm jack is wired
to the red wire, which is the right channel in a stereo system. So
it my guess is that Yamaha reversed it to differentiate in some way...
