The Report so far:

Last nite, I hooked up the old midi drawbars. Turned on the "see midi"
function on the v3.

The v3 functions perfectly, of course. The drawbars send nice controller
messager on the appropriate channels for the functions that I know
already work. And, sure enough, the draws send NOTHING.

Soooo .... I decide to open this bad boy up (we don't neeeed no
steenking warrantees...) just to have a look around. Maybe something
shorted from debris or who knows...

It looked real clean inside with no real debris but there was an
'oily' spot so I hit it with circuit board cleaner and kept looking.

Interestingly, there are two chips in the center of the board sideled
up to the rom (MDBV 1.0) of the same type. These are labelled
CD74HC4051E with H9106 on the next line. All the sliders trace to
the 'left' one. My theory is that there is something wrong in that
circuit either with the chip or related and it not only doesn't
work now but, in fact, NEVER DID. Wasn't gonna bench the thing
and take readings just yet cuz I'm not that good just yet, not
was I going to open up the good ones to compare (hey, if it ain't
broke....)

So, I'm pretty certain she's just plain old bona fide broke and
always has been. What I'd like to find is:

A schematic
A source for this encoder chip or replacement
A little experienced advice on known failures
Some more hair to pull out. :-)
