Hi Pete,
I am a musician who does a lot of gigs - so issues like convenience and quick
set up times are important to me. I use different rigs depending on the
situation - one of them being a VK7 using its internal leslie sim. I've spend
quite a while and money since XB2 times feeling like I had to have the latest
hammond clone. Recently I figured something out: they all sound pretty much the
same - just with different issues that are unsatisfactory if you stress on them.
A leslie transforms all of them into a much better instrument. But none of them
are a console Hammond, really feel or sound like one. The CX3 sounded pretty
good to me when I tried one out at my local music store. A lot of things to edit
but I guess you get used to that. I still think the Voce V5 sounds best/
closest. But the percussion on the VK7 is better - and it's all there in one
package - with no wallwarts, midi cables etc... - which is what I sometimes need
for casuals. Yeah, it gets a bit wierd up the octaves and the leslie sim. can
sound a bit cheesy - but it's a decent instrument.

To sum up - i use a Hammond organ whenever I can. For casuals I sometimes use a
VK7. If I want the best sound I can get, without lugging the organ - I use a V5/
145. THE most important thing is playing the damn clone like a Hammond - using
the right voicings, expression pedal action etc... The VK7 is a fine instrument
and does the job. The keys feel good to me. If you want to buy something else -
buy a tube Leslie - then you'll have a major improvement in sound worth the
money you spend. Wish I'd spend all the money I spent on clones on Hammonds and
Leslies! Just my opinion - and good luck to you,
Eamonn
