Howard,
I think you probably only have to choose which Leslie to use, but could
have the CX3 sitting on top of the chopped B3 and maintain the same
"footprint" in your apartment, taking up no more space than the chop down
itself. That way you have access to either or both at any given time. Your
UC-1A gives you 1/4" input to either Leslie. The CX3 has 1/4" out, and most
chop downs are set up with a 1/4 " output.
I don't own nor have I tried out the new CX3. I used to own an old one,
and was very satisfied with it as a compromise, both live and for recording.
I used it through a 145. I traded it in a deal for a chop B3, although it's
only a single manual in an Anvil-type roadcase, and setup with all four sets
of drawbars accessed by A flat, A, B flat, and B "black" keys. It has
internal Trek II pre-amp w/reverb and 122 adapter and I use my old battered
road-warrior 122 with it. I also use a OB-3 squared, Fatar SL 161, and
Motion Sound Pro 3T and Peavey KB300 with Roland EP7 piano as my light rig
that I can transport in my Suzuki Sidekick ! (please read as 30 mpg)
Regardless, if you want opinions as to which will sound better, the
Hammond always wins. Thomas made a good point in that you can use
headphones with the CX3 for "quiet times". 145 verses 122 is very
subjective, but at apartment volume levels I don't think you'll notice much
difference. Obviously, the 145 will be a little brighter and less bass than
the 122 at gigging levels.
Only other choice is get rid of the wife and set it all up, put the
volume pedals to the floor and wail away.............
