Hi,
Just an observation on two or three points. (plus and minus)
The 145 is a similar animal to a 122; both top ends are much the same.
It is in the bass where the 122 is said to shine against the 145,
having a taller cabinet. Much discussion has taken place as to
whether there really is any more bass available from the 122, but
living in an apartment this would not be a major issue anyway I would
have thought. So to all intents and purposes, either Leslie would be
very nice thankyou.
I have a 145 at home with an M100 and the sound
is a total joy. I don't believe that any clone will match a real tube
amplified tonewheel organ, or completely faithfully copy the
filtering, percussion, and the scanner vibrato, so for sound the real
deal is the real deal is the real deal, as they say.
Having heard the CX-3, I would probably choose this option if I were
in the market for a clone, also checking out the new Clavia Electro.
You already have the Korg which sounds great through a Leslie
but which also has the option to feed a pair of headphones, with a
very convincing Leslie simulated sound, which might prove
indispensible, living in an apartment.
You would not have any neighbour problems and also it would give you
the opportunity to go over a new piece of music, quietly.
You could repeat phrases which might otherwise drive your wife and
the neighbors mad.
You could also happily play in the middle of the night. The Korg
should not need servicing and no oil should every get onto the floor.
On the other hand, a good condition B3 is a very nice piece of
furniture which your wife might really get to like and which would
definitely be a conversation piece when the neighbours dropped
by. "Oh no it wouldn't" That was my wife, telling me that an M100 was
plenty big enough for me.
Probably the best answer would be to keep the Korg in another room,
both for indispensible practicing reasons and for giving you an
excuse to visit this group. Also get the B3 which has plenty of
room for ornaments and such and would look so cool in your apartment.
In truth, although my M100 makes the best noises, my keyboards and
clones get the most 'quality time'. I have a small studio, (converted
bedroom ) where I can go away from the TV and quietly get on with
things. You do need both instruments IMO, the Korg being without
Leslie if necessary.
Regards, Thomas.
