I also just picked up the rack version of the Kurzweil PC2 and I
really like the B3 patches. However, just as Dave noted, it is a
compromise sort of keyboard/module. It has an astounding piano, good
B3, horns, great vocals, Rhodes piano and all sorts of other easy to
pull up sounds, a lot of which are easily editable. The onboard
effects are also very good with the exception of one, the Leslie
simulation. This is something Kurzweil has never been able to do
well. I'm a huge Kurzweil advocate (I now own three), but I've
always used other brands of Leslie sims. Right now for live use I'm
using a Kurzweil K2VP (61 key, synth weighted) to control the PC2R
Hammond sounds and that through a TubeWorks Blue Tube and then a
Motion Sound R3-147 and I'm pretty proud of the sound I'm getting.
The Kurzweil does many things very, very well, but it just isn't
designed to take the place of one particular instrument.
