Subject: [Voce] Virus Alert -- PLEASE READ!

Bruce's Stationary StationeryGuys,
I just received a virus alert from a website that hosts one of our members.
It said:
A message you authored has been detected as containing a virus. Please DO
NOT send any more messages until you have run an anti-virus program on your
system and then resend the message.
The scanned document was QUARANTINED.
Virus Information:
The attachment att1.htm contained the virus WScript.KakWorm and could NOT be
repaired.
I ran Norton AV 2000 with the latest signatures, and sure enough, it found
something. There were three files in my Windows directory that were
infected:
KAK.HTM
{something}.KAK
I deleted them, so I don't know what the {something} is anymore. One of
them had a very long name that was reminiscent of registry keys. If you
have these files, PLEASE DELETE THEM.
The only messages that I have sent in the last 24 hours are (1) a reply to
the post about the Rotosphere, and (2) a private message to one of our
members. When looking through my sent file, however, I see some very
strange code in the middle of the Voce reply message -- coincidentally,
right where the GO.COM add was in the original message. That leaves two
possibilities: (a) the GO.COM ad had a virus, or (B) the GO.COM ad was
replaced by the virus code.
I am sorry for any trouble this may have caused anyone on the list. I run
Norton AV on bootup and in the background at all times, and I am puzzled as
to how the virus got past the checking program. A note to Norton is
probably in order ...
Best regards,
-BW
