Ed,
I was very much considering getting an A70 when I first contemplated using a
Voce V5. What I wanted to have was a real nice clone Hammond sound and
keyboard and also some decent piano. My idea was to get the A70EX with the
VERD-1 card (which has a nice piano) and run the V5 from that. I really
loved the A70 for playing piano/synth on, it's a great feeling keyboard.
Even though it doesn't have piano type weighted action, I kinda preferred
that to the fake piano feel that a lot of piano emulator keyboards have.
However, I just couldn't get into playing organ on it. It's a very unique
keyboard, the keys are quite long - and they don't tire your fingers out.
I'm just used to Hammond type keys and I found the A30 to be closer - and
since organ is my main thing, I opted for that. Also, there was nowhere on
it to velcro down the V5. Very possibly one could get used to playing organ
on the A70. But I found the A30 action more suitable for organ and not bad
for piano. I got a Kurzweil Micropiano instead and I'm very happy with the
way it sounds.
The downside of my decision is a longer set up time and reduced midi
implementaion. But the A30 feels good to play and is lightweight and easy to
transport. I'd have to say that there's no substitute for trying them both
out. It really depends what you're used to playing.
Cheers,
Eamonn
