My $.02 --

First off, anybody who's ever heard it will tell you that two real
Leslies sound better than one in a Live environment, especially if you
change the pulley settings on one of them so that the two horns rotate
at slightly different speeds. (That's what the three different pulleys
are really there for!) It's probably the same for the PRO-3, and even
though you didn't try to do it, I'll bet the two motors are running at
slightly different speeds.

Secondly, the deflectors on a real Leslie add a bunch of phase
relationships that are almost impossible to track, let alone duplicate,
plus a strong (frequency modulation) FM component to the sound. When
John Fisher made the PRO-3, he decided that "most" organists took the
deflectors off their Leslie, and so the PRO-3 is an open-horn design --
which is mostly amplitude modulation (AM). A little FM is added back in
because of the exponential shape of the PRO-3 horn, but no where near as
much as on the real thing. I've never liked the "deflector-less"
Chorale speed on a Leslie -- it kinda just throbs, rather than moving
around -- although the Tremolo speed is arguably better that way than
with deflectors for some kinds of music.

Using TWO PRO-3's, however, adds back in a lot of the phase-relationship
thing I mentioned, since the two units are probably not lined up and
moving in sync.

Hey Bruce since you're the man with the answers, try this. My church
just
recently purchase a Pro3T to go with a Peavey 300. A soloist comes and
sing
"Amazing Grace". As a rule of thumb, most church organists start out
with the
first or first three lower sounding drawbars which in this case I'm
using the
V5. After the performance,she got a arousing ovation but I wasn't
feeling it
because I did not like the chorale sound of the Pro3T. The next night I
decided to take my setup. Now I'm running two Pro3T , one with the
Peavey 300
and the other with a Barbetta 32C. I plug theV5 In using a Yplug and
Presto
Ihave fallen in love with the Pro3Ts. Even the chorale sounds much
better.
Explain this please. MikeW.
