I'm not that bothered, but I can imagine instances where this could be
an issue, so anonymity may be preferable.

So long as access to the archives is possible, including an expanded FAQ
section for new users (Bruce's answers are a gold mine) a short
read-only period sounds like a good idea.

Yes. The way I found/joined this group was from searching the net, not
from being recommended by a third party.
