Here's more information about what I did to mount my drawbars. I used a
method similar to yours, but went one step firmer in mounting them down.
Please excuse the crummy ASCII drawings, but I didn't want to clutter up the
mail with big attachments, and not everybody can view drawings inline in
their browser, anyway:

The T-nuts are mounted flush with the 'inside' edge of the 2" x 3/4" Oak
strips, then the strips are screwed into the larger piece of Oak, with glue
added for a nice solid feel. Afterwards, the whole Sandwich is painted with
a couple of coats of satin black paint, and then the drawbars are mounted to
the Sandwich with screws, per my earlier post.
The retainer strip is a piece of baseboard edge molding nailed to the main
board, used to keep the keyboard from sliding off during the gig. There are
two oversized holes in the main board where the thumbscrews go through the
board and connect to the T-nuts in the Sandwich. This assembly is also
painted satin black.
The whole unit sits nicely on a tier of an Ultimate Support, Quick-Lok, or
Invisible keyboard stand, with a second keyboard below for piano and the
lower manual of the Voce. (WARNING: without the upper keyboard, the
platform + DBs + Sandwich is very 'left-heavy'! Keep this in mind if you
have a center-mounted keyboard stand like an Invisible of Ultimate's
"Apex".) The Sandwich + Drawbars can be removed between gigs and stored in
a case for safekeeping, then quickly re-mounted using the thumb screws. I
got everything I needed with one stop at Home Depot (wood, cut to size;
paint; screws; glue) and one stop at a hardware store (T-nuts and
thumbscrews). You might find it all at Home Depot.
Assuming that you use a 61-key controller for the upper keyboard, the while
unit is roughly the size of a FATAR 88-key controller. I've toyed with the
idea of getting an 88-key SKB case, mounting the upper keyboard
semi-permanently to the larger board, and leaving the whole thing assembled.

I had no interest in sticking Velcro on the keyboard, the drawbars
crashing into the back of my hand, leaving adhesive goo on my stuff at
resale or trade-in, etc. So...I have designed and constructed what is a
prototype of a drawbar holder for my single keyboard on a X stand. You can
do this too. Think about your particular requirements and design your own.
I needed to have the bars at keyboard level, not blocking any of the
on-board controls, easy to transport, lightweight, totally functional,
inexpensive and accessible to the left hand. I essentially built an
extension off the bass (left) end of the keyboard, using thin plywood for
weight/rigidity and so it lies in the hard case during storage and
transport. This frees up my right hand to continue to play while tweaking
the controls, drawbars in real-time and rotary pots with my left. I have
two positions designed into the same extension, so the extension continues
straight away from the bass end and/or a different position that brings the
drawbars around to the side, similar to a school chair/desk desktop or the
business end of a hockey stick. That position has been most satisfactory
ie. it works and no one has laughed at it. A spray coat of black matte
paint and you're done. All Velcro is attached to the extension top and
underside of the drawbars. The weight of the keyboard holds the extension
in place. If I'm really pounding, the assembly wobbles up and down a
little, but it has not fallen off until the keyboard leaves the X-stand.
I've thought about different materials but am constrained by thickness and
weight. I want it all to lie easily in a hardshell keyboard case, which it
does.
I also have a pedal board of the same material, Velcro enhanced, to mount
sustain, fast/slow footswitchs and other pedals in position for easy
stomping. The lightweight hold and switch pedals have to be secured. I was
tired of not knowing where the dark colored pedals were in a poorly lit work
space. There is enough going on during performance/rehearsal without
playing tether-pedal under your rig.
I remain curious about the block method of drawbar attachment.

My second post. As the proud new owner of an "old set" of Voce drawbars,
I need all of your help. How do I make them sit firmly on my Korg N1.
Even with the strongest Velcro they still rock and roll. If my memory
serves
me, Bruce detailed a method for mounting them on a wood block on the
groups'
old site (but I can't find the file). Can anyone remember or suggest a
different way , without making Bruce rewrite the instructions.
