Subject:Re: We Made It

Thanks for the profile. I happened to be suggesting this forum this
afternoon to a former B-3 owner who sold his to move and is now primarily a
guitar player. I think that the owners or wanna be owners of the old VOCE
line are the real lifeblood of the forum pages. Is it possible that
opening to other things will result in lots of Wersi questions, Farfisa or
Vox issues? These are all vintage sounds that probably need their own
forum, if there is enough interest and the forum can be over seen by a
knowledgable host.

I find the V3 to be complex enough that I need other input from other users,
especially since the product is well out of production, well out of warranty
and still a vital source for the sounds that I want to get, with some
economy in size, price, portability, etc. The V3 manual that I have
downloaded is essential for introduction to the product, but it doesn't
really offer real life info about how the product can be used on stage, in
studio, in home, with other outboard effects, pedals, amping, unorthodox
tweaking or sources of the drawbars, modules or modifications. That is
what I will find useful on the pages of this forum.

I would be at a loss if there were a sudden problem with my sound, and I had
nowhere to turn for repair advice, sales advice, tweaking advice. I would
turn first to the users and contributors of this forum.

I like the anonimity right now, I have played in ensembles where there were
other keyboard players from various backgrounds and ability levels, even if
they didn't realize it. I liken the VSG to a pool where I can fish for
advice, offer advice and info and not feel that I will have to deal with the
outside stuff. I'm here for information, not really for social (?)
interaction. If this were a gamers site or collectors site I might feel
differently. How many VOCE products can one expect to collect? It's enough
to deal with the v3 box itself.

Private to prevent spammers. I don't have time to weed out the useful from
the chaff if the spammers is allowed in.

I think that you are knowledgable and are doing a good job. If I didn't, I
would not have switched over.

All,

The transition to the ONElist forum is complete, and about half of the
original list (38 of 75 subscribers) have made the jump. I left plenty
of info for the stragglers, and a few more members will likely join in
the next week or so. The following are some musings that I've had, in
no particular order --

What kind of musician is a Voce Support Group member? Based on the data
you provided to the ONElist registration, plus comments you have made
over time on the old list, he -- the list appears to be exclusively
male -- is a 20- to 65-year-old (42 is the average) lover of the Hammond
sound who has chosen the V3/V5/Micro-B in the interests of portability
or small space in the home. About half of you are serious players; the
other half less so. A few of you are pretty MIDI-savvy, but most are
not.

A couple of nice things about the new list:

1. I notice that about a dozen of you are subscribing by daily digest,
rather than in real-time. This was not possible in the old list.

2. We have archives! Now, individual members can pull up old
e-mails, instead of depending on my Sent files. I don't know how
long ONElist plans to keep the archives, so I'll pull them off at
the end of each month, .ZIP them up, and store them at the website.

3. The real-time posting speed seems to have increased the traffic
slightly -- which is a good thing, IMHO. A list only survives if
people use it regularly, and the delays caused by needing an
action at my end probably caused a few of you to lose your
enthusiasm or train of though sometimes.

4. The advertisements are not obtrusive. I was concerned that they
might be long diatribes with attached graphics, but ONElist seems
to have better taste than that.

This seems like a good time to pose a couple of questions about what we
are and where we're going with this list:

1. Right now, the Voce list is not displayed in the ONElist "community"
listings. The only way to find out about us is to a) join by word
of mouth, or b) stumble across my website. We have the option to
publish our existence through ONElist. In the interest of privacy,
I've elected not to go public. Do you think we should?

2. The list membership is not available, even to you members, thus
creating a truly anonymous forum. Do you want other members to
know who you are?

3. Right now, I've got it set up so that new members can read the
discussions, but cannot publish e-mails until I change their
status -- which requires them to read the charter and reply that
they agree with it. I've done this to prevent spammers from
joining and broadcasting junk mail, and I think it's a good
policy. Does anybody disagree?

4. Currently, VSG membership is open to anyone, without sponsorship.
Does anyone disagree with this policy?

Let me know your opinions, either in this forum, or privately if you so
choose.

Best regards,

-BW
