Subject:V5 vs. Vintage Keys
Another $0.04 to add........
As regards the EMU module, the one thing in thier promos that they
haven't shown is drawbars. They give you the option of assigning
12 controller numbers to your keyboard, but dont say if 9 of them
drawbars or not. W/ 32 meg of samples they might just give you a
lot of different settings & you would switch between individual
patches to get the sound you want. Now thier ad says they have a
Leslie simulation. Before it had sounded like you would have to
crossfade from a slow Leslie wave form to a fast one. Also the
all-important chorus effect hasn't been addressed in thier ads. So
it would be very important to ascertain about that & the drawbars
when coming to a purchase decision. As those of us who use the V3
or V5 can attest (& this is not a knock on you Micro owners),
having those drawbars right there so you can adjust on the fly is
something that's very hard to live without once you're used to it.
Also, in regard to the tube preamp - Another option there is the
parametric eq that ART makes. It's about half a rack space (no
accomodations for rack-mounting it though - you would need to jury
rig that) and also has a 12AX7 tube. It has 2 fixed & 2 sweepable
bands. So if you're going the H & K or PRO3-T option you'll have
the 2 tube chain Bruce had mentioned. I have the V5 velcroed to the
eq, which is in turn velcroed to the keyboard. Having that rounds
out the Voce eq curve rather nicely & you can compensate for some
chracteristics of different playing rooms too.
