Subject:Re: keyboards and bass pedals for a V5 . . . HELP!

Well...
I literally took my V5 out of the shipping box a couple of hours ago - so it's
early days to say the least (!) BUT I'm using a Roland A30 (have been already
for piano - Kurzweil Micropiano, which I recommend to anyone for acoustic piano
sounds). This keyboard has three V5 related advantages that I can see. (1) It's
one of the few around that actually has some space to velcro the V5 down onto
(albeit blocking off a few lower keys - but it is a 76 note keyboard so they're
dispensible for playing organ). (2) It has a decent action for organ and a
'liveable with' one for piano (if you're not looking for hammer action) (3)
It's very light. The third could also be construed as a disadvantage because
it's not exactly going to give you that invincible feeling of sitting behind a
mutha of a hammond organ, but if you want to travel light it's great. If you
use the V5 with the A30 you're going to have half an octave of notes at either
end of the keyboard which don't sound which might be funny when you're taking a
solo and trying to take it that notch higher - but at least it means you
probably won't fall off the bench!

If you're not actually going to velcro the V5 to a keyboard you'll have more
keyboard options (I've heard of people using a drum throne sat next to the
keyboard or a wooden base longer than the keyboard itself)- but I must say, I
do like the A30 action for playing organ licks on. If you're running several
modules, you'd be better off getting an A33 which is basically the same
keyboard with better midi facilities. I'm trying to figure out how to
comfortably switch between 2 modules from my A30 at the moment (besides using
the volume pots on each).

Don't know about the pedal unit...

Also, I've got a question for V3 owners etc... Does anyone know where there is
a list of the drawbar settings etc... corresponding to the presets on the V3?
I'd find it real interesting to manually go through those settings.

Best of luck,

Eamonn
