Excellent Dave - I'm off to buy one of dem dere gizmos. Sounds like you've got
the ideal set up with your XK2 and V5. I agree with you about the difference
having two manuals makes. Dropping down for those quick comps during a solo,
holding pads down under a melody - that stuff is so much part of the Hammond
'sound' and playing experience. Sure, you can split the keyboard - but I haven't
been able to come up with a left hand comping sound that sounds as good down the
octaves as well as your typical 838 or whatever.
How do you use the Hammond percussion with the V5? Again, that sounds ideal. What
I often end up doing is pulling the first and third drawbars back a bit to
accentuate the percussion - but it definitely lacks something. That, and the weak
chorus are my two criticisms of the Voce.
I think that having a playing 'enviroment' that you're comfortable with is at
least as important as having the best sound available - and from that point of
view the XK2 makes a lot of sense. Sounds like you've got the best of both
worlds.
Cheers,
Eamonn
