Subject:Re: [Voce] cheap controller for v5
Eamonn,
Glad you liked the pedalboard idea. It works great for me. I use a rocksak
gigbag for the V5. They are now called Gizmo equipment bags. Basically
plush, padded zipper bags with pouches for cables, etc. lots of protection.
They come in all different sizes and range from 22.00-44.00. I carry my V5
and some cables in one pouch and my Novation Nova (which is even bigger) in
the other pouch. I got mine mail order from American Musical supply
(800-458-4076 / americanmusical.com).
I have an XK-2. I was looking for a controller for the V5 also, and was
about to buy an A-33 and maybe a midi drawbar unit, when I came across it in
the want ads used for 1000.00. I jumped on it. The action is unbelievable!!
Obviously, a much pricier option than the A-33, but I'm glad I did it. I
midi the V5 into the XK-2 for upper manual, and midi the XK-2 into my piano
for lower manual organ. The V5 does sound better than the XK-2: warmer,
fatter, grittier, more realistic through a leslie at high speed, but I don't
care as much as I used to. Having 2 manuals is a treat for me.
I actually like the percussion on the Hammond alot, so I use the Voce with
the Hammond percussion, and the XK-2 has an instrument input, so I only need
one output to the leslie for both of them.
The V5 is a little weak in volume on the top drawbar, so sometimes I'll add
some 1' from the XK-2. It just gives me more options all around.
I've been getting a lot of complements on my organ sound lately. The KBR-M
has worked out nicely for me. I've got it tweaked pretty well right now.
I owned a BX-3 organ for a long time, but I never did like the action, and
after playing the Voce, sold it. But if you want 2 manuals, it's pretty cool.
It does sound real good.
Anyways, you caught me in a blabby mood tonight.
Take care,
Dave Osoff
